UPDATE /10/21

The NEW DELHI Peace Field Project (PFP) received a boost today when Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club from the English Premier League donated kits to the kids that will be taking part in the PFP Delhi event. The kits were donated through our one of our sponsors Starlizard Integrity Services. These kids are participants of  Swayam Foundation event of Jan 2020  which was a sports event with Football and Athletics.

Dr Geeta Arora, PFP, Project Manager, Trustee – Swayam Foundation, Founder – Heal with Homeopathy shared , “The kids were elated today to receive the kits. They are from underprivileged background and were delighted to feel special in their new football attire. The first soccer event was quickly followed by them asking us “when will you hold the next event as we practice every day.”

Prithvi Jagan, PFP Manager, and football coach said, ‘This is wonderful news for the children.  Soccer is very popular in New Delhi with more and more mixed ability boys and girls playing wherever they can find an area to play’.

A PEACE PITCH IN DELHI

India Gate is a war memoral to the 70,000 Indian soldiers that died in the First World War.  A group of NGO’s working with children across Delhi are now developing their Peace Field Project to commemorate the war dead and celebrate peace, through play.  

The cornice of the India Gate is inscribed with the Imperial suns while both sides of the arch have INDIA, flanked by the dates MCMXIV (1914 left) and MCMXIX (1919 right). Below the word INDIA, in capital letters, is inscribed:

TO THE DEAD OF THE INDIAN ARMIES WHO FELL AND ARE HONOURED IN FRANCE AND FLANDERS MESOPOTAMIA AND PERSIA EAST AFRICA GALLIPOLI AND ELSEWHERE IN THE NEAR AND THE FAR-EAST AND IN SACRED MEMORY ALSO OF THOSE WHOSE NAMES ARE HERE RECORDED AND WHO FELL IN INDIA OR THE NORTH-WEST FRONTIER AND DURING THE THIRD AFGHAN WAR

Organization Background

Poonam Navnirman Sanstha is a women economic empowerment and child development organization which work to improve the lives of women and children in the society by giving them respectively, the right to work and the right to play.

The Challenge
As many as 35 million children have hearing difficulties in India. They are isolated and neglected. Only 1 in 10 go to school and they are highly likely to end up living hand to mouth in unsafe situations.

Umesh Deshmukh (Project Development Manager) said, ‘Poonam Navnirman Sanstha provide safe environments for children to play.  We have mostly volunteer coaches facilitating football for fun sessions.  Poonman organisation are passionate about working with young people.  I have worked with Slum Soccer for many years and gained, valuable experience which now helps Poonman facilitate football coaching sessions across communities for boys and girls.  We are in a position to consider twinning a designated area of play here in Nagpur with Flanders Peace Field.’

Our holistic approach will include;

  • Access to adapt sports for development, life skills and coaches programmes for D/deaf children and adults
  • Hearing screeningpathway of care/support for those already in programmes.
  • Victim/survivor support and safe placement pathways for D/deaf children & young people
  • Training for D/deaf people to become employed coaches.
  • Progression route for those demonstrating leadership potential.
