School attended the Gateways to the First World War lecture given by Dr Emma Hannah. \u00a0Herne Bay High School were awarded for their exemplary \u00a0input at the lecture. Pupil S Eissens collected the award on behalf of her school she said, &#8216;the lecture was very interesting and the whole school is looking forward to twinning with Flanders Peace Field&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Kent County Council&#8217;s, Registration, Libraries and Archives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/HBHS-Workshop_w300_169-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1536\" src=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/HBHS-Workshop_w300_169-.jpg\" alt=\"HBHS Workshop_w300_169\" width=\"259\" height=\"146\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/HBH-TRENCH-LETTERS_w300_h169.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1535\" src=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/HBH-TRENCH-LETTERS_w300_h169.jpg\" alt=\"HBH TRENCH LETTERS_w300_h169\" width=\"257\" height=\"145\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Herne Bay High School (HBHS) kicked off their Peace Field Project (PFP) with a workshop given by the NCFA and the Kent County Council&#8217;s Libraries, Registration and Archives. \u00a0The pupils were introduced to the PFP and how they can research the First World War in their home town of Herne Bay. \u00a0HBHS, Project Manager, Mr Gregory, said, &#8216;The workshop helped pupils to consider a number of areas to research. \u00a0All the pupils took part in the tasks set by Libraries, Registration and Archives Officer, Mr Illingworth. It was an enjoyable workshop and one that sets up the project for the pupils to get start their research.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>These questions were given to the participants before they started their projects.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: 1.5em; line-height: 1.5em;\">WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE FIRST WORLD WAR?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I know it was called &#8216;The War To End all Wars&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I also know there was a Christmas Truce where the German soldiers and the British soldiers played a game of football&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">C Evans. Age 13<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;nothing much except I know it started in 1914 and ended 1918&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">C Gibson. Age 13<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I know that we commemorate the First World War with poppies on the 11th November and we have a minute silence&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">K Ashenden. Age 14<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I know there was a lot of\u00a0devastation&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">T Walker. Age 13<\/p>\n<h2><strong>WOULD YOU GO TO WAR FOR YOUR COUNTRY, IF SO WHY AND IF NOT, WHY NOT?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I would not go to war as I know that many people have to die fighting I also know that I would have to kill people&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">N Alexander. Age 13<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;No because I think there are other ways problems can be solved&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">M Abbatt. Age 14.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;If I was forced to then I would, but if I had a choice then I wouldn&#8217;t because I don&#8217;t like to leave my family for ages&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Z Wallace. Age 13.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;No I wouldn&#8217;t as I would stay at home and look after my family. \u00a0I would help people from home&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">J Clark. Age 14<\/p>\n<h2><strong>WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO PREVENT ANOTHER WORLD WAR EVER HAPPENING AGAIN?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I would try and make the countries talk about their problems to resolve it peacefully.&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">M Abbott. Age 14<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;To prevent war again I would rise the amount of education in schools about the world wars to show all of the peoples who have been killed and also the amount of suffering it caused their families and friends&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">N Alexander. Age 13<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I would do my best to make sure that people never forget the devastation of the war, the lives it destroyed and the buildings it destroyed&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">T Walker.
