INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Students from Branch School Ba\u0161ka in the Peace Field Project (Pula, September 15, 2023)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the third year in a row, the students of Branch School Ba\u0161ka participated in the international project “Field of Peace”. It is a project that preserves the memory of the Christmas Truce<\/em>, a football match between German and British soldiers, played on the eve of Christmas in 1914 on the battlefields of Flanders in Belgium. The soldiers of the warring parties came out of the trenches on their own initiative and played a football match in \u201eNo Man’s Land\u201c. With this, they showed that they were not ready for war and that sport can overcome the horrors of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teacher Ivan \u0160ori\u0107, a native of Ba\u0161ka, who worked at the Pula school Veli Vrh and left for the war, is the link between the Ba\u0161ka Regional School and the Veli Vrh Elementary School from Pula, which hosted the project this year. He died of cholera in October 1914 in Galicia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So on Friday, September 15, the students of the upper grades of the Branch School Ba\u0161ka and the History teacher Tvrtko Bo\u017ei\u0107 headed for Pula. The students put together a soccer team, which was accompanied by eighth graders Petra \u010culjat and Lea Ser\u0161i\u0107, for this occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon arrival at the school in Pula, a special program was organized to mark the 110th anniversary of the school’s founding. The school choir sang a few songs and the participants of the History Group briefly recalled the school’s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After that, the project participants headed towards the old school where Ivan \u0160ori\u0107 also worked, and laid flowers and a wreath on the uncovered memorial plaque, on which it was written that it was the first school in the Croatian language on Veli Vrh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After laying a wreath at the old school on Veli Vrh, the project participants headed towards \u0160tinjan to lay flowers and a wreath at the old school in memory of all the teachers who died in the First World War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The finale of the project was a football tournament in which two teams from Veli Vrh school, a team from a school from Valbandon near Pula and a team from Ba\u0161ka. The tournament was held at the football field of FC \u0160tinjan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
