By competing together on integrated teams and participating in PeacePlayers\u2019 community relations and team-building activities, children from these historically divided communities can discover common ground, forge new friendships and break down barriers, all through various programmes like our Cross-Community League (CCL). At the end of our winter CCL term, PP-NI hosts one of our infamous celebration events, Jingle Ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Major-Milestones-Maps-20th-Anniversary-Expanded-1536x512-002.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"341\" src=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Major-Milestones-Maps-20th-Anniversary-Expanded-1536x512-002-1024x341.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4930\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Major-Milestones-Maps-20th-Anniversary-Expanded-1536x512-002-1024x341.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Major-Milestones-Maps-20th-Anniversary-Expanded-1536x512-002-300x100.png 300w, https:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Major-Milestones-Maps-20th-Anniversary-Expanded-1536x512-002-768x256.png 768w, https:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Major-Milestones-Maps-20th-Anniversary-Expanded-1536x512-002.png 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>PEACEPLAYERS NORTHERN IRELAND WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2002 TO PROVIDE A RARE OPPORTUNITY FOR&nbsp;<strong>CATHOLIC AND PROTESTANT YOUTH TO FORM FRIENDSHIPS AND ADVOCATE FOR RECONCILIATION AND SHARED SOCIETY.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peace Players Northern Ireland engages over&nbsp;<strong>1200 Catholic and Protestant youth each year<\/strong>, ages 9-25, in year-round and multi-year basketball training, conflict resolution education and leadership development activities in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.belfaststar.org\/about.html#:~:text=The%20early%20years,Sea%20Youth%20Club%20in%201964.\" target=\"_blank\">Belfast Star<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;is the oldest recorded basketball club in Ulster still participating competitively.  The late Dr Liam Conlon founded Star of the Sea Youth Club in 1964. Primarily a football club, Liam wanted to encourage participation in other sports and our current Club President&nbsp;<strong>Bill McCotter<\/strong>&nbsp;thus became involved at the forefront of basketball development in the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PeacePlayers \u2013 Northern Ireland (PP-NI), are the first organisation to purposefully use basketball as a vechile to bring young people from all communities together.
