I remember playing football at the Peace Village, Belgium, on their peace pitch with these balls. Happy days<\/strong>&#8216; said Josh, pupil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UPDATE 12\/10\/23<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Free Play on Foreland Fields School Ramsgate Peace Pitch<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Friday 23<sup>rd<\/sup> September, the day after I returned from the CFA Global Peace Games in Messines, I had the pleasure of attending the Foreland Field Peace Field game to celebrate Peace Pitch Day with students from the school, including many who were at last year\u2019s Global Peace Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Helen Newman, Leader of Learning 6<sup>th<\/sup> Form, and Lee Goddard, Sports, had arranged for students to play some football on the school\u2019s Peace Pitch which had been twinned with the Peace Pitch at Messines the previous year. The Foreland School Peace Pitch is adjacent to the new sports pavilion where the Peace Field plaque will be proudly displayed on the completion of the pavilion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students really took on board the spirit of the Christmas Truces, playing for fun, without pitch markings and using coats and army helmets (reproductions) as goalposts. autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;On behalf of Foreland Fields School; thank you to the CFA for such an amazing and unforgettable week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The powerful film, especially in context of the awful things that are happening across the world, captures the reason why the Global Peace Games (GPGs) is essential for young people and creating peace makers for the future.   To know that some of the participants have gone through wars is very sobering.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foreland Fields participants clearly enjoyed every day and made some great friends.  Our pupils have benefitted enormously from experiencing the GPGs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All Foreland Fields Staff felt a tremendous learning curve between play and history. This was to re-enact the Christmas truce of 1914. Then we went to socialise, but we were all still awkward, most of our group were walking around. But for us, social butterflies, we saw the others\u2026the Czech Republic group in the fields kicking a football about just having fun, so we just asked to join in.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cBiking around was exhilarating and tiring, every muscle ached for us. We rode past houses by rows of graves and many memorials like the Flanders field, (the place of the event of the of the 1914 truce.)\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-4 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cNot knowing a word of Czech, and the Czech not knowing a word of English, John S, Darren N and G, Dominic and Ethan made friends with the Czech translator (Jakob,) and tried our best to participate. Whether it went well is not a big deal, it was fun.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe area we were in was a historical battlefield, the first where multiple nationalities died. It was a respectful place, that the original trench was restored so you can feel the environment and see how far we\u2019ve come.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cWe enjoyed acting out different roles from the 1<sup>st<\/sup> and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> world war, such as: a prime minister, an activist, a dead soldier, and we got to express our views.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAs a group we were privileged to see the Last Post. A ceremony of remembrance that has been held for the last 100 years.
