Update 10\/09\/24<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limestone United<\/strong>\u00a0is set to extend its good relations campaign when it travels to Romania in October and connects its Peace Field Project with the Finding Hope Ministries, Str. Lunga nr. 96 Cisndie, Jud. Sibu. The Belfast team has been at the forefront, highlighting the power of sport utilising their peace pitch for cross-community relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brian Caskey, writes; Limestone United PFP is delighted to be involved in the creation of a peace field project in Romanian in October 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Romanian Partners ‘and pitch location -Finding Hope Ministries Str. Lunga nr. 96 Cisnadie, Jud Sibiu, Romania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding Hope ministries founder and president  Nathan Merill M.D  hosted Limestone United in 2023 and brought a group of his young people to a return visit in 2024 and visited the home of Limestone United peace pitch at Seaview Football grounds Shore rd Belfast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a privilege to share stories and learning based around the principles of play and friendship. Limestone United are playing an active role in the pitch development to allow young people to have a safe shared space in their community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By connecting the two pitches we are continuing on our peace journey supported by the Children\u2019s Football Alliance and through Football we have created common goals with our Romanian friends of peace and respect <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limestone United girls project are very much looking forward to the launch of a community Peace pitch in October 2025 and the handing over of the peace poppy ball<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Update 06\/11\/24<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limestone United  from 17th October to 21st October 2024 had the pleasure of hosting a delegation of Romanian Young people from <\/p>\n\n\n\n

C.S Academia Magura Football club from the town of Cesidua . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were supported by our great friends at the Finding Hope ministries who carry our amazing work to support young people in the community in Cesidua<\/p>\n\n\n

Limestone United following up on our visit to Funding hope ministries in 2024 hosted a great day at the home of Crusaders Football Club which is the location of the Limestone United peace pitch . During the visit to Romania Limestone United helped initiate a football pitch development at the Funding Hope ministries and we are delighted to see the progression made towards the completion of the pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018 It was an honour to present to our guests the poppy peace ball for it\u2019s journey to Romania in the safe hands of such wonderful young footballers who showed remarkable skill and friendship during their time at our peace pitch. It was emotional to  hand over  a symbolic ball connected to a moment in history when conflict stopped for a brief period and humanity stepped in across no man\u2019s land in WW1 to witness football being played between the combatants. Peace through play a common goal for all to aspire to\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n

We are very excited to see the onward journey of the Peace Ball in Romania through the Children\u2019s Football Alliance peace fields project . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE CHILDREN’S FOOTBALL FAMILY ALLIANCE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As we sat together in Larne High school I was telling Adam Hamilton from Youth Link NI all about the Children\u2019s Football Alliance and about our recent experience at the Global Peace Games 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n

As I was showing Adam the CFA web site and the recent Activity in New Zealand Adam stood back in amazement at seeing the heading \u2018 Southland FC peace fields project \u2018<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adam actually played for Southland FC during his semi professional career in addition to playing for Crusaders FC the home of the Limestone United peace pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What an incredible connection to hear about and Adam kindly shared a newspaper Article about his time in Southland FC  – Southland express newspaper 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n

Adam has recalled with fondness of his experience at Southland FC and his journey into youth work after football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adam had spent time recalling memories that he shared with other Northern Ireland players who headed to New Zealand from all sections of the Political divide and how they became great friends and team mates .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018 I could not believe what I was seeing when Brian showed myself the CFA Article whilst talking about football whilst at Larne High school, so many happy memories came back to me .<\/strong> \u2018Adam Hamilton <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peace fields projects bring so many people together and it\u2019s great to celebrate another connection across the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Update 24\/09\/24<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limestone United F.C represented Northern Ireland at the 2024 Global Peace Games. The week-long peace education programme brought together 80 young people from 21 nationalities. The GPGs unvieled the 70th Peace Field Project Plaque from Maidstone United FC, Kent, England. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You judged me because I was late to work, stumbling in with bloodshot eyes and dark circles painted underneath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You say, us young men are ungrateful, drunk, lazy, unfit. You call me lost, you say I am from the dirty neighborhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You ask me to work when my hands are cut from bricks in my living room. Shattered glass sliced my feet, leaving trails of blood marking my path forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You ask me to smile at work, smile through busted bloody lips, black eyes and broken teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You say be thankful for your life when my brother took his own, crushed into the ground by anger, wanting rather to feel the peace of death than the unrelenting terror of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limestone United is based in the Limestone Road area of North Belfast<\/a>, an interface between Newington and Tigers Bay. Brian Caskey ex-police<\/a> officer in the area for 25 years, was used to dealing with violence and its aftermath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He decided to do something to help put an end to clashes and communal tensions. Teaming up with several other volunteers, as well as Holy Family Youth Centre, Mountcollyer Youth Centre, and Star Neighbourhood Centre, Brian and the team founded cross-community football club Limestone United.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group played a key part in the Children’s Football Alliance’s FOOTBALL MAKE OUR SHARED HISTORY, project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limestone United successfully completed the FMOSH project and twinned their designated area of play with Flanders Peace Field’s Peace Pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently, Limestone United visited Str. Lunga nr. 96, Cisnade, Jud. Sibiu 555300, Romania, to discuss producing the First Ever Peace Pitch in Romania. A team of key Limestone United supporters championed the International Peace Field Project in Romania. They advocated the importance of play and how it brings all communities together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limestone United has been a great success, transforming the lives of young people in the area through involvement in their senior team, boys’ youth team, and girls’ team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brian said, ‘Taking the Peace Field Project to Romania illustrates how our young people have the confidence to extend thier experience of their Peace Pitch and advocate peace through play.’ <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Great day at Seaview yesterday building peace between young people and communities. We hosted our Children’s Football Alliance<\/a> Football Makes Our Shared History Good Relations Event .Thank you to all the lads from the Creggan ( Lifehack project ) for coming up to take part .We held a photo exhibition to showcase the peace building efforts of our young people over so many years . Some very young faces on show. Thank you to our supporters for attending on the day to get behind all the young people. We intend to build on this event as we bring young people from different backgrounds together to build good relations , shared experiences and build peace .Thank you to the Duncairn Community partnership for supporting this event through the Duncairn Community champions project.
