The event will be followed-up with the school receiving a plaque next year twinning Chailey School playing fields with Flanders Peace Fields, Messines, Belgium, site of the First World War Christmas Truces. <\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1517\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Presentation-Poppy-Ball-Chailey-2_w300_h169.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1517\" class=\"wp-image-1517 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Presentation-Poppy-Ball-Chailey-2_w300_h169.jpg\" alt=\"Presentation Poppy Ball Chailey 2_w300_h169\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1517\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Assistant Head Teacher, Tim Dudgeon, introduces guest speaker Ernie Brennan from the National Children&#8217;s Football Alliance.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was time for Chailey School\u2019s now annual \u2018Peace Field Football Tournament\u2019 on Thursday! This tournament is also part of Chailey School\u2019s ongoing commemoration project on <em>\u2018Chailey and The Great War\u2019<\/em>, the school\u2019s continuing links with local primary schools, and also an important nation-wide project with the National Children\u2019s Football Alliance. Local primary schools from Ditchling, Fletching, Hamsey, Wivelsfield, Plumpton, Newick, Barcombe and Danehill all played with enthusiasm and considerable skill, with both sporting competition and fair play being key parts of the afternoon. Mr Dudgeon, Assistant Headteacher at Chailey School, welcomed Ernie Brennan, Managing Director of the NCFA, to start the event with a ceremony of handing over a \u2018Poppy Ball\u2019, marking the school\u2019s playing fields twinning with Flanders Peace Field and the Peace Village at Messines in<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1518\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Presentation-Poppy-Ball-Chailey-3_w300_h169.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1518\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1518\" src=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Presentation-Poppy-Ball-Chailey-3_w300_h169.jpg\" alt=\"National Children's Football Alliance's Ernie Brennan presents Chailey School with a Peace Poppy Ball to kick off the Peace Fields Tournament\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1518\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">National Children&#8217;s Football Alliance&#8217;s Ernie Brennan presents Chailey School with a Peace Poppy Ball to kick off the Peace Fields Tournament<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Belgium (site of the 1914 Christmas Truce). The nation-wide Peace Field Project has invited schools not only to commemorate World War One and the Christmas Truce but also to celebrate peace through reflecting on a moment in history that inspires humanitarianism, and Chailey School is proud to be at the forefront of this and one of the first schools to be involved.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The afternoon, organized by Chailey\u2019s Ms Davey, and refereed and run by the school\u2019s Year 9 Junior Sports Leaders, saw some great football being played in a sporting spirit.
