{"id":4185,"date":"2020-06-22T15:59:26","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T15:59:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/?p=4185"},"modified":"2020-06-24T20:00:04","modified_gmt":"2020-06-24T20:00:04","slug":"football-peace-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/football-and-peace\/uncategorized\/football-peace-project\/","title":{"rendered":"FOOTBALL &#038; PEACE PROJECT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/21yd0zTdyOk\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/EVALUATION.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FOOTBALL AND PEACE&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/EVALUATION.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EVALUATION REPORT<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/NCFA_Football_Peace_425.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1393\" src=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/NCFA_Football_Peace_425-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"NCFA_Football_Peace_425\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a>First World War Centenary<\/strong><b>: one year to go <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Communities across the UK begin marking the First World War Centenary thanks to Lottery funding<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>&nbsp;<\/i><\/b>99 years since the UK entered the First World War, communities across the country have been given the green light to start a range of projects that will mark the forthcoming Centenary thanks to funding from the <a title=\"Heritage Lottery Fund\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hlf.org.uk\/Pages\/Home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Heritage Lottery Fund<\/b><\/a> (HLF).<\/p>\n<p>Grants announced &nbsp;August 2013 include the first to be awarded through <b><i>First World War: then and now, <\/i><\/b>HLF\u2019s<b><i> <\/i><\/b>\u00a36million small grants programme announced by the Prime Minister at the Imperial War Museum last October which aims to help communities explore, conserve and share their First World War heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Now, young people in Kent will explore the role of football during the 1914 Christmas Day Truce; blind and partially sighted groups in Wolverhampton will begin researching how the war advanced ophthalmic medicine; people across the UK will investigate the names commemorated on their local war memorials including Abbotskerswell in Devon; the contribution of Scotland\u2019s nurses to the war effort will be shared and marked; whilst the story of soldiers from Bolton who fought and died at Gallipoli will be remembered.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_24\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/NCFAPaulCooper.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-24\" title=\"Paul Cooper\" src=\"http:\/\/www.childrensfootballalliance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/NCFAPaulCooper-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"NCFAPaulCooper\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-24\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paul Cooper<\/p><\/div>\n<p>HLF\u2019s <i>First World War: then and now<\/i> forms part of the UK Government\u2019s Centenary programme. &nbsp;<strong>National Children&#8217;s Football Alliance Projects Director Paul Cooper<\/strong> said: &#8216;This an important time to remember and a period in history that young people should have the opportunity to discover, discuss and contemplate. &nbsp;HLF&#8217;s forward thinking provides organisations like NCFA to engage all young people, which will help continue the remembrance link&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prime Minister David Cameron<\/strong> said:&nbsp;\u201cOur duty with these commemorations is clear. To honour those who served. To remember those who died. And to ensure that the lessons learnt live with us for ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dame <strong>Jenny Abramsky, Chair of HLF<\/strong>, said:&nbsp; \u201cThe impact of the First World War was incredibly far reaching. Our new programme only opened in May and already HLF has seen a great deal of interest in people wanting to commemorate this important Centenary, coming forward with a myriad of fascinating ideas for projects. This is just the beginning of some very interesting explorations for communities everywhere who will find their own individual ways of commemorating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HLF has already invested more than \u00a315million in projects \u2013 large and small \u2013 that mark the Centenary of First World War.<\/p>\n<p><b>Football &amp; Peace Project<\/b> &#8211; National Children\u2019s Football Alliance, Kent (grant \u00a332,500)<\/p>\n<p>This project will use the iconic 1914 Christmas Day truce as a vehicle to explore the relationship between sport and the First World War.
