THE FIRST EVER PEACE BOXING RING

CELEBRATING PEACE THROUGH A BOXING CLUB’S HISTORY

The first ever Peace Ring to twin with Flanders Peace Field was celebrated at the unveiling event held Sept 21 on the United Nations International Day of Peace. The children were presented with the history of their club which now facilitates over 100 participants. An exhibition of the history of boxing was displayed in the gym along with a projection of pictures illustrating how important the boxing club is in their community when it comes to bringing people together.

BUILDING BRIDGES COMMUNITY BOXING CLUB

Located on what is still at times a volatile ‘interface’ between the two communities, the Building Bridges Community Boxing Club is playing a vital role in improving relationships between people of all ages – people on both sides finding that in the Shared Space that is the Macrory Centre they can meet/talk/play with the ‘Other’-  discovering they have much more in common than previously thought. Building bridges to peace and reconciliation!

Through our shared history in a sport that was prominent in The First World War, BBCBC are looking forward to recording our living history and twinning The First Ever Peace Boxing Ring In The WORLD with Flanders Peace Field.
