11th November didn’t pass unnoticed in Dendermonde. On a beautiful day The Flemish city, severly hit during the 1st World War, closed down for remembrance day and the centenary commemorations.
Four youngsters that participated in the 2018 Global Peace Games took part and took up their role as young peace ambassadors. The young participants, themselves from war-torn countries, read testimonials at the inauguration of the new peace tree at the renovated Franz Courtens square. They read the testimonials in presence of more than 200 spectators, the mayor and city council of Dendermonde.
Their message was proud and clear: CELEBRATE PEACE
The Global Peace Games (GPGs) is now 4 years old. The 2018 GPGs was part funded by Erasmus+ and UEFA Foundation for Children; inspired by The United Nations’ International Day of Peace and The First World War’s 1914 Christmas Truces. Directed by The National Children’s Football Alliance (UK) and facilitated by The Peace Village (Belgium) the GPGs is a week-long event engaging young people from diverse backgrounds and different cultures, in football / sports games and non-formal peace education.
The GPGs Film (below) was shot by the participants – AMBASSADORS FOR PEACE.
